Oxford University Press India launches STEAM week
The week-long webinar series will be focused on exploring a range of age appropriate STEAM elements that can be integrated into the classrooms
The sessions cover wide range of topics including: Experiential learning, Math skills and coding, Art integration in learning and Project based teaching
February 23, 2021: Oxford University Press (OUP), the world’s largest University Press announced the launch of STEAM Week, an open access webinar series for educators to attend, interact and get tips and strategies to allow children to apply their academic skills in ways that support intellectual development, creativity, innovation, and problem solving. The STEAM week will be organised from February 22 – 26, 2021, and will cover topics like Experiential learning, Math skills and coding, Art integration in learning and Project based teaching. The webinar series is a part of OUP’s initiatives to continue to support educators and learners while learning from home. STEAM is an educational approach to learning that uses Science, Technology, Engineering, the Arts and Mathematics. It empowers teachers to employ project-based learning that crosses all five disciplines and fosters an experiential learning environment, where all students are able to engage and contribute. These webinars will explore a range of age appropriate STEAM elements that can be integrated into the classrooms, both in the form of new activities and as modifications to existing classroom activities.
The series kicks off on 22nd February with a session by OUP Author Mr. Abhijit Mukherjea on the topic Teaching of Mathematics – the Experiential Way. The session covers tips to make teaching Maths’ more enjoyable, and relatable for students by changing the pedagogical approach to being more conversational and interactive. On 23rd February, Ms Meena Suresh, Former Director, Ramanujan Museum & Math Education Centre, Chennai will be focusing on integrating coding and mathematical concepts in her session on the topic Math Skills and Coding, followed by a session led by OUP Author, Ms. Anahita Lee, that deep dives into the concept of integrating art activities and projects with mathematics.
The next two sessions of the STEAM week will be conducted on 23rd February, led by Dr Anna Neena George, Associate Professor, Dr Dada Vaidya College of Education Goa. These sessions will focus on the urgent need of scientific literacy in the 21st century, strategies to enhance scientific literacy and positive impact of collaborative learning model on students while learning science.
The last two sessions of the series will be conducted on Friday, 26th February, led by Ms Richa Sharma, Principal Sanskriti School New Delhi and Ms Champa Banerjee, senior teacher trainer. These sessions will cover the topics of Building Science Concepts – the Experiential Way and Project-based Teaching in Science Classrooms. The sessions aim at introducing the participants to new strategies to make the teaching and learning of Science engaging and meaningful
