OVER 30,000 RURAL STUDENTS EMPOWERED: GHCL FOUNDATION’S ‘JOYFUL LEARNING’ IS RE-SHAPING EDUCATION IN RURAL GUJARAT
As India emphasizes foundational literacy and grassroots development as key pillars for a Viksit Bharat, strengthening rural education has become a vital area of focus. Supporting these national educational goals, the GHCL Foundation, which serves as the Corporate Social Responsibility arm of GHCL Limited, is driving a quiet educational transformation across the Amreli and Bhavnagar districts of Gujarat through its flagship Learning Enrichment Program.
Since its inception in 2017, the initiative has successfully transformed the academic journeys of more than 30,406 children, equipping them with essential literacy, numeracy, and life-long learning capabilities. The program is structurally designed to address early educational gaps by shifting focus away from rote memorization toward activity-based, inclusive learning environments.
A major highlight of the initiative is the introduction of “Mojilu Shikshan,” a translated concept meaning Joyful Learning. This innovative educational module integrates fun, participatory teaching methodologies to strip away the anxiety often associated with complex subjects. Through hands-on experiments, storytelling, educational games, and creative interactive sessions, the program turns passive classrooms into vibrant hubs of curiosity. Furthermore, under the companion “Rupantar” initiative, students undergo specialized transformation sessions designed to permanently shift their mindset from passive listening to active inquiry.
The strategy is yielding highly measurable results across core subjects including English, Mathematics, Science, and Social Studies. Rigorous internal impact assessments reveal significant leaps in basic reading, writing, and arithmetic skills among the participants. Local schools are noting a sharp rise in daily attendance, student retention, and overall academic confidence, which is effectively curbing the dropout rates that frequently plague coastal communities.
The tangible transformation driven by the GHCL Foundation is echoing strongly among local educators and administrators.
“The specialized focus on foundational learning has helped slower learners improve significantly, while co-curricular activities have transformed once-shy children into confident participants,” said Jagrutiben Giri, Principal of Branch Primary School in Jafrabad.
Samatbhai Gohil, Principal of Chanchbandar Main Primary School, highlighted the ground-level changes: “The program has successfully revived classrooms through art, sports, and creative learning, ensuring children strengthen their basic reading and mathematical skills without feeling pressured.”
Principal Rianalben Makwana of Victor Primary School also shared, “We have seen a remarkable transformation in student learning levels and overall school engagement thanks to this holistic educational approach.”
Students participating in the program have also shared their experiences. “The activity-based learning and encouraging teachers helped improve my personal confidence in reading and mathematics, making school truly enjoyable and exciting,” said Lakhu Wagh, a Grade 8 student from Kathivadar Primary School.
The long-term success of the program is perhaps best highlighted by its ultimate academic outcomes. Several students previously identified as slow learners have not only bridged their learning gaps but have gone on to successfully clear their secondary school certificate examinations with strong marks. School principals from key regional institutions, including Victor, Chanchbandar, Khadsaliya, Vadhera, and Kadiyali, have credited the Learning Enrichment Program for driving structural, meaningful educational transformation across the region.
Through the Learning Enrichment Program, GHCL Foundation continues its commitment towards strengthening rural education ecosystems and creating confident, capable, and future-ready youth through sustainable and inclusive community development initiatives.
